Pain Management
What is pain?
“Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience, associated with
actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage.” This
is the definition used by most of the medical community, but in reality “pain is
what the patient says it is and it exists whenever the patient says it does.”
(Margo McCaffery) Physicians spend a great deal of time treating pain and
Thrifty Health and Compounding Pharmacy can help find therapeutic options for
everything from fever blisters to neuropathic pain. When capsules and tablets
fail to provide relief, we have other options (i.e. transdermal gels,
suppositories, troches, topical gels, injectables and extended-release
capsules).
Chronic pain affects approximately 10 – 20 % of the adult population. With the
correct treatment, many of these patients could avoid unnecessary pain. Optimal
pain control may be achieved for the following forms of chronic pain:
-
neuropathic pain
-
diabetic neuropathy
-
post mastectomy pain
-
phantom limb pain
-
fibromyalgia
-
migraine
-
rheumatoid arthritis
-
osteoarthritis
-
cancer pain
